The Hunting Lodge hunting area fits comfortably in with
the many tourist attractions which have gained Queenstown
the reputation of being "The Adventure Capital of the
World". Activities such as jetboating, white water rafting,
parapenting, and bungy jumping from the historic Kawarau
Bridge (only a few kilometres down the road from Hunting
Lodge) are complimented by almost as many tranquil pastimes.
You can golf on one of several magnificent courses in
the area, enjoy the many beautiful outdoor walks, shop
in the downtown duty free malls and in the evenings, wine
and dine at the many superb Queenstown restaurants, bars
and casinos. Nestled under the rugged might of the Remarkables
Mountains, New Zealand's best hunting destination, Hunting
Lodge could not be in more spectacular surroundings. In
2003 this Hunting Lodge was a recipient of the People
Choice award being 3rd placed in the world. Unlike most
back-country hunting areas, this Hunting Lodge is easily
accessible, just 25 kilometres from New Zealand's premier
tourist destination, Queenstown. The Hunting Lodge property
rises from the rocky bounds of the Kawarau River canyon
- once the scene of the 18th century goldrush which gave
New Zealand its most colourful and earthiest history.
The property is New Zealand's largest private hunting
reserve, rising 7000 feet into the splendour of the Remarkables
Range area. The Hunting Lodge is a world class facility
and the only one of its type in New Zealand. Set high
in the hunting area and built of natural materials, this
luxurious hunting base provides accommodation for up to
12 people. The lodge provides the hunter with the best
of everything including a chef, spa pool, large barbecue
area, formal dining, house bar along with all the usual
comforts of home. The visitors book is a who's who of
the hunting world.
Hunt Season: The
New Zealand hunting season is from mid February to mid
August. The recommended average hunt duration is seven
days. We recommend you arrive in Queenstown one day before
your hunt begins, to allow you to settle into the surroundings
before we start you on your trophy hunt.
Travel and Licence Requirements:
The closest international airports to Hunting Lodge are
Auckland and Christchurch, where you can acquire licences
for your firearms. Licences are issued by New Zealand
Police at any airport entry into New Zealand for all sporting
firearms, except handguns, which are illegal. The recommended
rifle calibres for New Zealand are from .243 to .300 magnum.
There will always be a New Zealand Police officer available
on arrival and he will tend to your needs. Your firearm
licence, issued for a small fee, covers all of New Zealand.
From your point of entry into New Zealand, internal airways
can transport you to the beautiful Wakatipu Basin, where
we will meet you at Queenstown airport and transport you
to Hunting Lodge. Our guides will assist you to benchrest
test your rifle, to be sure sight adjustments haven't
altered during your international flight.
Shipment of Trophies:
Trophies can be mounted by expert New Zealand taxidermists
or freighted out of the country. For trophies being freighted
out of the country, a surcharge of $100.00US will be made,
per trophy. This covers the cost of materials and labour
to build a strong crate, the preparation of trophies for
shipment, securing the proper shipping and documentation
to accompany the crate and delivery to an international
shipping agency.
Note: All shipments
will be on a "freight forward" basis of payment. Recommended
Clothing: Because you will be hunting in spectacular
alpine country and winter conditions, we recommend you
bring warm winter clothing. Although our winters are sunny
and dry, we do have clear, freezing mornings and depending
on the month, the ground is often blanketed in snow. We
recommend you bring waterproofed leather boots for use
in alpine conditions. You should have a complete change
of clothing available.
