Hunting for the Marko Polo ram and
on Central Asian wild mountain goat.
In severe conditions of the Pamirs
Marko Polo argalis choose the most favourable areas
for the habitation. These are places where vegetative
Alpine lawns are naturally combined with bare rocks of
mountains. Areas covered with pebbles are used by wild
rams for the daytime rest. Animals lay down so that before
them there is a wide all-round view. In conditions of
the stable snowy winter at a height of 4200-4500 meters
and higher animals try to choose for their rest places
protected from wind and lay down under the covering of
rocks and boulders. The wild Marko Polo ram is a large
long-legged, thin-boned sheep. The maximum weight of male
individuals not often exceeds 150 - 160 kg. The longest
registered horns of the Marko Polo ram are 75 inches or
190.5cm. (Roulend Word, 1895). With sunrise wild rams
go down to graze in lowlands and the open spaces between
mountains. After twelve o'clock in the afternoon wild
rams without ceasing to graze slowly rise up the mountain
slopes to the places of their daytime rest. Today hunting
for these wonderful animals is considered the most exclusive
hunting experience. The main camp is located at a height
of 4000 meters above the sea level, and during hunting
we can rise up to 5000 meters. Each hunter will have their
own huntsman-guide and you will move on horses. You can
plan the trips during the period from September till March.
